Varun Kartan Pawar, M.D. is a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Uveitis specialist at University Ophthalmology in Hyde Park, Chicago.
He was raised in Mansfield, Ohio. In undergrad he majored in anthropology and graduated summa cum laude, where he was also inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He completed his medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine through their Dual Admissions (BA/MD) Program.
Dr. Pawar moved West for ophthalmology residency training at the Saint Louis University Eye Institute. He then completed a fellowship in Ocular Inflammation/Uveitis and Medical Cornea at the prestigious Proctor Foundation at the University of California San Francisco.
After San Francisco Dr. Pawar found home in Chicago where he joined Dr. Veena Arun at University Ophthalmology. Here he practices comprehensive ophthalmology, including managing diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma, as well as performing cataract surgeries.
Dr. Pawar has a special interest in diagnosing and treating uveitis (inflammation inside the eye). This encompasses ocular surface inflammation, blepharitis, ocular herpes, scleritis, and anterior/posterior uveitis. He is an active member of the American Uveitis Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Outside of ophthalmology, Dr. Pawar enjoys spending time with his family and friends, traveling, hiking, playing the occasional video game, and trying new restaurants in the Chicago area.
