Dr. Veena Arun, M.D. earned her medical degree from The University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine in June of 1995. She received the Excellence in Ophthalmology Award as a graduating senior medical student for her outstanding performance. She completed her residency training in General Ophthalmology at the University Of Chicago Medical Center in June of 1999 and was selected by the faculty to serve as Chief resident for a year. She received the Harvey Klein award for exemplary patient care in 1999. Upon completing her training, Dr. Veena Arun was offered a position to serve as a faculty member of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Chicago. During this time, she enjoyed working within the department to recruit and train new residents in Ophthalmology as well as with the Pritzker School of Medicine as an ombudsman for the medical school and as a member of the Admissions committee to review and select candidates for admission to the medical school. In 2008 she ventured out to start her own private practice - University Ophthalmology in the Hyde Park neighborhood and has continued a standard of Excellence.
It has been the goal of the University Ophthalmology to provide excellent medical and surgical Eye care to those people living in Hyde Park and numerous surrounding neighborhoods. Dr. Arun also works at Mercy Hospital, where appointments may be available upon request. Dr. Arun performs her surgeries at Illinois Masonic Hospital & Christ Hospital Medical Center.
American Board of Ophthalmology date certified 2002 & re-certified in 2012 serves as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology since 2005 to present
